After studying Accountancy & Finance at Manchester Polytechnic (now Manchester Metropolitan University) I joined a local firm of accountants, working in the tax department for almost 25 years, during which I qualified as a member of the Association of Taxation Technicians, and later was the first  member from Bolton to be granted Fellowship status. I also qualified as a Certified Accounting Technician.

During my employment I worked for a number of firms although on one continuous contract, and gained a wide variety of experience as the client base changed. In addition I was also responsible for dealing with IT issues, and have experience with a variety of hardware and software packages.

Away from work I have a variety of interests including local politics, heritage and family history, gardening, cooking, and snowboarding.
